Paws pounding against the dirt and sand, long sleek legs gliding effortlessly, tail held straight out behind, just a blurred silhouette against the sun.
Kanarica loved to run, she loved the feeling of the wind through her fur, if it was one thing that made her happy, it was running. She slowed down as she came to a river, she flicked her tail and twitched her ears, she lowered her self down onto her front legs and gently lapped at the cool water.
She walked along by the side of the river, keen eyes darting around making sure there were no males about, like most females at this time, Kanarica was in heat, which made her even more wary of being around males, since her last mate, Kara now hated males, and she now had a big fear of being pregnant, so being in heat, in a pride ruled by a male made her jumpy, but she knew she would be fine if she just kept alert and on her guard.

Eyes were watching the jumpy and cautious female. Damu's eyes to be exact. He knew she was in heat, like all the females were. The evil cat couldn't help but grin at this. Though he wasn't sure that he would even try to force breed her. Was he really that evil? Possibly. He swiftly padded up to the stream, and lapped at the silent water. From the corner of his eyes, he was watching Kanarica. But he acted like she wasn't even there. Damu just wanted to get some female pregnant. Because he wanted a son, to train him to one day take his place. Though not anytime soon would anyone take his place. Besides, he would get no luck with Kanarica, she ran everytime a male so much as glanced at her. Damu lifted himself to his full height, shaking water droplets from his whiskers. He sat by the river, simply ignoring Kanarica.

Kanarica froze as she saw Damu pad over to the stream, her body twitched, telling her to run, but her paws didnt move, Damu did not once look at her while he sat by the river, but Kara was very clever and knew exactly what he was after, he wanted to mate with her, she shuddered at the thought, there was no way on this earth that Damu would get that from her.
She stood there almost motionless, the only movement was that of her chest going in and out rhythmatically to her breathing and the occasional nervous twitch of her body. She was quite far away from Damu, a good hundred yards or so, so she could still escape if she had to. Her golden amber eyes never moved from him, she didnt want to get caught off guard, her claws digging into the ground as she tried to figure out Damu's next move.
The sun was beating down on her form, her light golden pelt covered with smudges of black, her slim, sleek form always looked the best in the sun light, her fur was soft and smooth and not a single scar marked her beautiful body, she tood there, her long slim legs holding up her streamline body, this was the reason she was beginning to find it difficult to stay away from males, she was beautiful, some would say perfect, not to mention she was also in heat, but Kara was smart and she never let her guard down, not even for her leader

Damu looked at her now, seeming to notice her for the first time. She was a good ways away, and as soon as he came up to her she would surely run. He could also tell she knew what he wanted. He sighed, this was pointless. Surely there was a more willing female for him to mate with? THere was no way he could get close to Kanarica. now when he still was so far from her. She loved to run, and she was fast, not to mention a good hundred yards away. And there was no way Damu could act like he had just come to chat... Kanarica was too smart to believe that. The cheetah lashed his tail in pure annoyance. There was no point in waiting here, Kanarica would never trust him. And that's what confused him. She lived in his pride, yet she didn't trust her own leader. But she had good reason not to trust him, he supposed.

It was kind of hot today. The shade from the tree, spotty as it may be, provided some relief. The wind provided some more and yet, Zuri was still hot and still thirsty. With a sigh, he gave in to his desire and stood to start off in the direction of the Silent Maji. His tail flicked and brushed against some dry leaves. From the position of nearly standing straight, he jumped and took off at a run. He had always been jumpy, but living here had made that trait even worse. Certainly there were Baya lions at every turn. Just behind that blade of grass, just out of sight.
Of course, as usual, there was absolutely nothing following him. Zuri gave a half-hearted chuckle and slowed down to a swift walk. He was even more thirsty now than he had been before. He stood tall, head peering over the tips of the long grasses, his long ruff, which gave him a continuous cublike appearance despite his near maturity, blew gently in the breeze with the grass. Golden eyes searched around him, desperate to see that hidden lion before it came too close, but instead noticed two delicate forms. Damu, the near white, and Kanarica, the cheetah of Royal lineage.
He had seen her from a distance but had never managed to get close enough for conversation. His eyes grew wide, seeing this as a possible opportunity. He had never met another Royal cheetah and, in his mind, they must be distantly related. He wanted to know all about her. Her family, her history. Where did their family lines connect? Zuri gave a small feline like bark that he had only known cheetahs to be able to manage. It was to alert to his presence, to say he was not a lion, he was a different kind of King.
He held his head high, he always did even if it was never quite as high around Damu as it would be usually, and walked forward. Dainty, clean paws, lead him to the driest spot he could find which happened to fall almost directly between Kanarica and Damu. He gave the female a bright, innocent smile and he dipped his head for a drink. Having peacefully, slowly, sipped his fill, he returned to that high royal sitting stance. Zuri was still much too far away to carry on any sort of conversation but this was a start. This was the closest he had ever been to Kanarica.
Golden eyes admired her pelt, how similar but how different it was to his own. It was hard to make out details at this distance but a cheetah has decent eyesight and he was no different in that subject, royal or not. The wind shifted and brought her scent towards the males. She smelled good. Did she know that? She must keep herself clean as he did, he imagined. If only he could get closer, to talk. He lowered his stance, a rare thing for him, to look less threatening and took one step towards her. Would this send her running?

Kara had her eyes on Damu, but something in the wind caught her attention, a whole new scent, she turned he head slightly, still keeping Damu in her line of vision out the corner of her golden amber eyes, she watched as a younger male, not quite mature yet, but not far off, wandered over to the cool water to take a drink, this was not turning out to be a good day for her, but then she noticed something about the younger male, he was like her, another with deformed spots, a king cheetah, but this did not make her want to trust him anymore than Damu. She twitched nervously as he smiled at her, but when he lowered himself and took a step closer, her froze, her legs locking up and letting her move, she kept her ears layed back, telling him that she would defend herself if he came to close. She could see that he had caught her scent, but it didnt seem to yet register in his mind that she was ready to breed, but this was because he was not quite old enough, give it another couple of months and he would be able to tell that scent a mile away.

It worked! She didn't run! Granted, her ears were back, but hey it was a start. Zuri's curiosity about the other overshadowed the fact he was humbling himself by lowering himself yet again. Besides, if he was a King, she was a Queen and one could not be embarrassed when treating a Queen as she should be treated. He managed to look innocent enough and took another step forward, then a few more. He took it slow, nearly slinking along the ground, until he reached just close enough that he could shout to her without straining his voice. Wouldn't want to do that.
"What Royal line do you descend from? Do you know?"
His eyes were wide with the hunger for knowledge. He had never known another Royal cheetah and desperately wanted to know more about his history and lineage. She could help him couldn't she?

Damu's eyes narrowed as he watched the two. He found his way away from them and with a soft growl sat farther down by the stream. Zuri seemed to think he was the leader here. And Kara hadn't run from him? Why did she trust him less? And why did he care so much? It wasn't like him to care. She trusted him less because he was evil, that's why. Zuri wasn't half as evil as him, so that's surely why she didn't run. Damu turned his head to look in the water and sighed.
